Q: What is the Governor's Law Intern Program?
The Law Intern Program is a part of the Governor's Intern Program. The Governor's Law Program began in the summer of 1977 to provide law students educational opportunities to actively participate in solving legal problems facing Georgia 's government agencies.
Q: Who may participate in the Law Intern Program?
The Governor's Law Intern Program invites first and second year law students to participate during the summer semester.
Q: How long does the internship last?
The law internship is 13 weeks. This summer, the internship begins May 14, 2007 and ends August 6, 2007.
Q: How much does it pay?
The law interns receive a stipend of $4,420.00 for their full-time 13-week internship.
Q: Do the students get to interview with the agencies?
Yes. The Governor's Office will conduct initial interviews with the students. Packets of resumes are then passed on to participating state agencies, who schedule a second round of interviews with the students that interest them.
Q: What agencies participate in the Governor's Intern Program?
Each summer different state agencies participate in the Governor's Intern Program. Agencies that have participated in the past include, but are not limited to: State Board of Pardons and Paroles, Department of Human Resources, Department of Revenue, Georgia Public Safety Training Center , Department of Public Safety, Department of Education, Governor's Executive Counsel and the State Board of Workers' Compensation. Currently, we do not place any students in local courts.
Q: What kind of work will I be doing during my summer internship?
Though the work within each agency may differ each summer (depending on the needs of the agency), writing and research skills are major components of all law internships.
