Governor's Intern

History and Purpose

The Governor's Intern Program, initiated in 1971, provides the best, brightest, and most ambitious college and law students with practical professional experience before they enter the working world.

The Governor's Intern Program offers invaluable work experience each semester in numerous state agencies throughout Georgia. The intern serves as a staff member with professionals in a career of interest to the student. A great deal of emphasis is placed on merging classroom learning with practical application. College juniors, seniors, and master's level students in any academic discipline are encouraged to participate. The law intern program is also a part of the Governor's Intern Program and primarily places law students each summer.

An ideal match would be for the student to be placed in a position where he/she would receive experience in his/her academic field of interest and to learn under and be supervised by a professional in that field.

Although not every degree requires an internship, all students are encouraged to participate and receive course credit for their work. It is the student's responsibility to obtain this credit within the school's guidelines. Selection of interns is based on interests, area of expertise, academic record, and the availability of internships.

In addition to "hands-on" training and course credit, all students involved in the Governor's Intern Program receive an educational stipend. The stipend makes an academic internship possible to all students.
